Originating from the swampy Fa Island chain, mariner cranes are often derogatorily called "muddy cranes" or "herons" by their imperial cousins. The two are closely related, enough to successfully interbreed, but the hybrid is a sterile mix of the two species, similar to the mule. Tough and resourceful, mariner cranes have spread all around the coastal regions of Augerna, thriving in fishing and trapping trades. They make skilled hunters and trappers, but rarely stray far from the coast, leaving them much less travelled than their imperial cousins.
Mariner crane feathers vary in hue from a light blue to dark gray, a waterproof sheen covering them. Their beaks are the sharpest of any Augernan race, still able to spear fish upon their sharp tips.
